Attendance was announced as 3392 which must have been done by someone crossing their eyes because with the stands not nearly full, I'd say at most there were more like 1700 actually here.
The Lynx had won their first game of the year on Friday night on an away game against Minnesota Thunder 2-1. A Lynx official pointed out that's the second time they've beaten a 'Thunder' team in the week because they won 3-0 in an exhibition game against the CPSL Hamiton Thunder on Monday night. One of the reasons for playing that game was because both Thunder teams play on artificial turf so it was good training.
If the Lynx were tired from their game in Minnesota on Friday night and their long trip back, it was worse for the Battery as it was their third game in five days and playing with only ten men for almost the entire second half on this hottest day of the year. It was understandable that they were just hanging on at the end.
The Lynx should have won this game after a shaky start. (strange to say that when they've won only one game this year) Even before the man advantage they were having more shots on net and more cornerkicks than the visitors. The Red card could have been worse for the Battery because Fraser fell in the Battery box on his run and soccer players are good at the hop, skip, and jump but a freekick was all that referee Isaac Raymond was going to award.
The Battery media director Andrew Bell said on his radio broadcast that Josh Smith was once a student at (Ontario's) Algonquin College.
Today's theme was Health And Fitness Day. Except for 1997 Lynx member Paul Stalteri giving the coin toss and a parade of adult soccer teams Special Olympians, there wasn't anything too special about the entertainment. The halftime soccer games involved childrens' teams as usual.
